The Objectives

The Three Kingdoms Theme Park is a testament of filial piety that the six children have for their father, Mr. Kiarti Srifuengfung, a successful Chinese-Thai businessman. His last wish was for a memorial to be built that would allow others to understand and appreciate aspects of Buddhism, Thai and Chinese culture and philosophy, and his favorite Chinese epic, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, compiled by Luo Guan Zhong of the Ming Dynasty. It remains the greatest and best known Chinese classical novel. It also provided Kiarti Srifuengfung a textbook on human psychology. This impressive project also strives to generate income for the society and kingdom of Thailand.

The Architecture

Background of the design : The original intent of Khun Kiarti before he passed away was to build a group of pagodas based on Chinese art and architecture, as a family memorial that would serve as a symbol of stability and solidity, and help bring prosperity and happiness to subsequent generations. This was the major tenet and consideration for the design of the overall site, including the layout, architecture, landscaping, and interior decoration. The mixture and combination of elements representing Thai contemporary and classical art / architecture was intended to communicate and signify the intertwined ties between China, which was the land of Khun Kiarti's forefathers, and the Thai kingdom where the Srifuengfung family rooted and became firmly established. All this was to be set within a framework of "Simplicity" and "Modernity" , reflecting the present-day context of this construction design.

The exterior design is focused on Chinese architecture, especially on "the roof architecture" or the roof top of all the Pagodas in the Park. On the other hand, the interior design features the aesthetic of Thai architecture. The overall architecture is based on the study of the mixture of Thai and Chinese architecture since Sukhothai Age.

Flanking the main pagoda to the East and West, two-side towers, the East Pagoda called "Kuan Yin Pagoda" is dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy, Kuan Yin which was an avatar of Mahayana Buddhism. Her image was made from pure white marble of 405 cm tall. The West Pagoda namely "Foundation Pagoda" is dedicated to the Srifuengfung Foundation for charitable activities holding. The Figures of 18 Chinese Saints and other Chinese gods also locate in the West Pagoda. On the right of the Kuan Yin Pagoda locates the Shrine of Guan Yu, who is admired by many Thai and Chinese as "The God of Honesty" Proximity to the Guan Yu Shrine stands the Hand-Painted Ceramic Tile Corridor which is said to be the world's longest painted corridor, depicting 56 episodes from the Romance of Three Kingdom Epic. Taken together, the seven sections of murals were crafted by Chinese-Malaysian artists from Jiangxi Province in China. A Garden of Petrified Woods - one of the biggest collections will be found in front of the Kuan Yu Shrine. Found in a cave in Lamphoon Province, The Holy Remains of the Lord Buddha, the forehead relics, are situated at the Three Kingdoms Park. It is religiously believed that to worship the holy relics of the Lord Buddha means the highest meritorious, luck and prosperity for Buddhists. Throughout, the Park contains the work of some of the most creative and innovative artists in Asia today, representing the highest aesthetic values.

Romance of Three Kingdoms

Believed by many to be China's greatest work of classical literature, this sweeping historical novel, was created out of historical facts and legends which were transmitted by word-of-mouth, generation to generation. The most important historical facts of the Three Kingdoms came from the many volumes of Official Chronicles (or Letters) of Historical Events such as "San Guo Jue, Ho Han Su, Han Jin Chun Chiew, Jue Jue Tong Jian, Sue Sua Sin Wi."

The history of the Three Kingdoms occurred from 220-280 A.D., a 60 year period of banditry, espionage with extraordinary war-time circumstances and plenty of incredible occurrences in a very short period of time. Things that were impossible during normal times took place. These stories deeply affected the hearts of people, who then recounted them over and over until they became fantastic legends, which eventually got crafted and developed into literature, at first orally disseminated in the form of "storytelling." Professional storytellers, skilled in the art of embellishment, increased the enjoyment and excitement of the stories and kept the audience coming back for more. After Chinese Opera flourished, some favorite episodes were adapted for the opera or dramatic stage.

"San Guo Jue Ping Hua," is the first, most complete volume of the Romance of Three Kingdoms episode.
